 Welcome to the Website! Here is a Summary of the Hanns Seidel Foundation's Current Activities



Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Ministry of National Education and Ministry of Environment regarding implementation of Environmental Education by both ministries has been renewed and signed on 1st February 2010.

The agreement was jointly signed by the respective ministers, Prof. Dr. Ir. Mohammad. Nuh, DEA and Prof. Dr. Ir. Gusti Muhammad Hatta, taking place at the Ministry of National Education.

The agreement is considered as the implementation of law No. 32 of 2009 pertaining to Environmental Protection and Management, particularly article 65, point 2, stating that one of citizen rights is to get environmental education. Furthermore, it is part of 100 days commitment of the new elected government between the two ministries. Minister of environment quoted the President wish to integrate climate change education into curriculum in schools. This encourages HSF to finish its Climate Change Education for Sustainable Module for Junior High Schools by 2010.

The main goal of the agreement is to mainstream environmental education by integrating it into national curriculum in order to generate environmentally aware students. Moreover, the establishment of a working group of environmental education that works on preparing grand design of the environmental education, coordinating the implementation of program and activities of environmental education and monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the agreement is one of the concrete agenda of the MoU.

The MoU also includes the development of implementation of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), including environmental education in all layers of education. Revitalization of research and development in the field of environmental protection and management is also one of scope of the agreement.

Through the agreement it is expected that the development of environmental education in Indonesia will be more effectively implemented.
