The German constitutional judge, Prof. Dr. Siegfried Bross, with the support of the Hanns Seidel Foundation and the Law Faculty of the University of Indonesia, has launched the book “German Constitutional Law; Selected Cases”, on 17th November 2008 in the Auditorium of the Indonesian Constitutional Court, Jakarta, Indonesia.

On 7 November also the second police training seminar of this year which has been conducted with German support at the Jakarta Centre of Law Enforcement Cooperation (JCLEC) in Semarang was successfully completed. This activity is the result of a joint program between the German Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs (AA), the German Embassy in Indonesia and the Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF). The topic of this seminar was “Organized Crime Investigations”. The seminar was conducted by two police officials of the Federal State of Bavaria/Germany, Kriminaloberrat Peter Breitner and Kriminaldirektor Bernhard Egger, who had been instructing 25 police officials from nearly all provinces of Indonesia since 27 October.

From 7 to 9 October the 11th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on the Environment (IAMME) took place in Hanoi (Vietnam). During this conference the awarding ceremony of the first ASEAN Environmentally Sustainable City (ESC) Award took place on the evening of 8 October. In this ceremony one city in each of the ten ASEAN member countries has been awarded for its achievements in providing provide clean water, land and air to its inhabitants. The Hanns Seidel Foundation (HSF) Jakarta, which has been represented at this event by its director, Dr. Ulrich Klingshirn, is part of the working group on the ESC program. Thus each of the ten cities has not only been awarded with the official ASEAN trophy but also by the prize of HSF Jakarta. Among the Indonesian cities Palembang, provincial capital of South Sumatra, has been awarded.

On 13 August 2008, the Association of HSF’s Indonesian Alumni (PAHSI) conducted a cultural evening at Sari Pan Pacific Hotel in Jakarta. Altogether 32 persons took part in the event, namely PAHSI members, HSF Jakarta’s entire staff as well as representatives from other institutions, such as Dr. Kambiz Ghawami, chairman of the World University Service (WUS) Germany, Mr. Suchjar Effendi from the Association of German Alumni (PAJ), Ms. Wina Widyaningsih and Mr. Hafidz Saputra from the German Department of Universitas Negri Jakarta (UNJ), Mr. Makhdonal Anwar from the Indonesian Committee of WUS, and Mrs. Freesca Syafitri from the Ministry of Science and Technology (RISTEK).

HSF Indonesia is facing a change of leadership: By the end of August Mr. Christian Hegemer will return to Germany after having held the directorship of HSF Indonesia since 1996. Starting from September Mr. Hegemer will head the Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation at the HSF Headquarters in Munich. As director of HSF Indonesia he will be replaced by Dr. Ulrich Klingshirn, deputy project manager for the project “Support to Local Governments for Sustainable Reconstruction in the Province of Aceh” (SLGSR) of the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ).
